Currently, there are 130 nations competing and they are divided into several divisions.The World Group consists of 16 countries and this is the top level of the whole structure. One of these teams wins the trophy at the end of each season.

Second level of competition is divided in three zones: Group One Americas Zone that consists of six teams, Group One Euro-African Zone that consists of 12 teams and Group One Asia-Oceania Zone that consists of 6 countries. The winners of each zone will play with the teams that lost their first round match in World Group and the winner of those playoff matches will play in the World Group in the forthcoming season.

Third level of competition consists of Group Two Americas Zone that consists of eight countries, Group Two Euro-African Zone that consists of 16 countries and Group Two Asia-Oceania Zone that consists of eight countries. The rules for promoting and relegating are the same.Fourth level of competition consists of Group Three Americas Zone that consists of nine countries, Group Three Europe Zone that consists of 16 countries, Group Three Africa Zone that consists of 16 countries and Group Three Asia-Oceania Zone that consists of eight countries.There is the fifth level of competition in Asia and Oceania, that consists of nine countries which are trying to qualify for the Group Three Asia-Oceania Zone.

Although the competitions have been going on for almost 120 years, there were only 15 champions so far and only six of them have five or more Davis Cup titles, which is pretty amazing. United States dominated in this competition and won 32 titles and they were runners-up in 29 occasions, which means they were finalists in more than a half Davis Cup tournaments in the history! Australia is second with 28 titles, while Great Britain won 10 titles so far.
