Shanghai Masters darts tournament is a part of the World Series of Darts, under the Professional Darts Corporation. The inaugural tournament was held in 2016, at the Pullman Hotel Shanghai South, in Shanghai, China, from June 25 to June 26. On that tournament, eight seeded players from Europe played in the first round against eight invited and qualified players, mostly from China.The Asians failed to surprise anybody, so in the quarterfinals, we saw the duels of eight best players in the tournament.

The first favourite of the tournament, Gary Anderson, was defeated against Englishman James Wade by 8:7, while legendary Phil Taylor, in a similarly exciting match, defeated Peter Wright by 8:7. Michael van Gerwen defeated his compatriot Raymond van Barneveld by 8:4, while in an all-England derby, Dave Chisnall surprisingly defeated Adrian Lewis by 8:6. In the semis, James Wade beat Phil Taylor, while Michael van Gerwen was better than Dave Chisnall by 8:5. In the finals, Michael van Gerwen dominated over James Wade and celebrated an 8:3 victory.In 2017 edition, Asian players didn't pull out any surprises one more time; they were all eliminated in the first round.

In the quarterfinals, Raymond van Barneveld surprised the first favorite Gary Anderson and defeated him by 8:1, Dave Chisnall defeated Gerwyn Price by 8:4, Michael van Gerwen survived the challenge from Phil Taylor and defeated him by 8:7, James Wade defeated Peter Wright by 8:5.In the semifinal, Dave Chisnall was better than Raymond van Barneveld by 8:4, while Michael van Gerwen defeated James Wade by 8:3. In the finals, Michael van Gerwen completely outclassed Dave Chisnall and celebrated 8:0 victory.
