The tournament was given the Superseries status in 2007, and it was promoted to Superseries Premier status in 2011.The most successful player in men's singles competition is Indonesian Rudy Hartono, who won the title eight times, including seven in a row, from 1968 to 1974. Judy Devlin won 10 titles in women's singles competition, but the most successful player overall is Sir George Alan Thomas, who won four titles in men's singles, nine titles in men's doubles and eight titles in mixed doubles for the record breaking 21 titles.

This year's tournament took place from March 7 to March 12, and Lee Chong Wei won his fourth men's singles title, while Taiwanese Tai Tzu-ying won her first women's singles title.
