Also, know as the ING Basketbol Super Ligi for sponsorship reasons, Turkey BSL replaced the former Turkish Basketball Championship to become the premier basketball league in Turkey. The BSL is contested by 16 teams while the bottom two teams were relegated to the second-tier TBL and would then be replaced by the top two teams of that division.

With sixteen teams in the league, the teams play against each other twice. Similar to that of the structure of other EuroLeague involved tournaments, the top eight teams participate in the league’s playoffs whilst the bottom two teams are demoted to the Turkish Second League and replaced by the top two teams of the said league.

Currently the league consists some of Top basketball clubs such as Fenerbahce, Anadolu Efes, Banvit, Besiktas,  Turk Telekom, Darussafaka, Galatasaray.

Over the course of 50 years, only 11 clubs won the title in the Turkish basketball league. Anadolu Efes is the most successful with 14 titles, Fenerbahce has nine, while Eczacibasi, which was disbanded in 1992, won 8 titles as well between 1976 and 1989. Galatasaray won five titles, as well as ITU. Ulker won four titles, Besiktas, Tofas, and Karsiyaka won two titles each, while Altinordu and Mukafizgucu won one title.

  • Beşiktaş: Besiktas Basketbol is a Turkish professional basketball team from Istanbul. Formed in 1967, the team has since won two Turkish Championships, one Turkish Cup, one Turkish President’s Cup, and 1 EuroChallenge competition.
  • Pınar Karşıyaka: Established over 50 years ago, Karsiyaka Basket goes the name of KSK which stands for Karsiyaka Spor Kulubu. Make sure to watch the teams that won two Turkish Championships, one Turkish Cup championship, and two President’s Cups.
  • Darussafaka: Hailing from Istanbul, Darussafaka Basketbol, otherwise known as Darussafaka Tekfen Basketbol for sponsorship reasons, this team is part of the Darussafaka Spor Kulubu multi-sport club and their basketball section Is also the most successful team in the sports club.   • Shane Larkin: Larkin was the former 18th overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, taken by the Atlant Hawks. In 2018, he left the NBA and decided to take his talents overseas.   • Vasilije Micić: Vasilijie Micic is a Serbian professional basketball player playing in the Turkish Basketball League- he also represents the Serbian National Basketball team internationally. A late 2nd round pick by the Philadelphia 76ers, Micic always had the option to play in the NBA but opted to remain in Europe where his talents flourished.
  • Bryant Dunston: Bryant Dunston is an American basketball player who went undrafted in the 2008 NBA draft, he immediately took his talents to the European Circuit.   • Ergin Ataman: Ergin Ataman is the Turkish-born head coach that had been coaching since 1996. In over 20 years of coaching, Ataman had won one FIBA Saporta Cup championship, one Fiba EuroChallenge Championships, four Turkish League Championships, and four Turkish Cup championships, and most importantly, the EuroCup championship.   • Ufuk Sarıca: Sarica is a Turkish born head coach of both Pinar Karsiyaka and the Turkish National Team. As a former player himself from 1989 to 2004, Sarica makes use of the time that he spent as a player to impart knowledge to the younger generations.
  • Igor Kokoškov: Kokoskov hails from Serbia and has been coaching since 1992, the oldest of the three in the list. For a large part of his career, Kokoskov has been an assistant coach in the NBA, where he had won an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004.
