This weekend, 19th placed Millwall take on a Sheffield United side which has, over the last few games, begun to look a little tired. A wonderful start to the season for the Blades has ever so slightly tailed off, though they are still in total control of their destiny. A trip to The Den isn’t the easiest place to be, but for Millwall, a win would be a huge surprise. As you might expect, Millwall will probably line up in a 4-4-2. While Steve Morrison has done OK so far this season, they are overly reliant on the goals of George Saville in the middle – top scorer with 6 – and the (relative) solidity of Shaun Hutchinson at the back. Both have been good performers at Championship level this year, but probably lack a little inexperienced to make it count – the rest of the team, put simply, lets them down too often

We expect Millwall to keep patience with their team, mostly through a lack of real options. Conor McLaughlin at right-back is another to have enjoyed a decent season, though it could be argued that the trio are the only real performers of note for the club so far this season.

Sheffield United Team News
Sheffield United, meanwhile, come into this one with a bit of a stuttering form themselves. A loss and a draw in their last two have halted their momentum for a bit, but they have plenty of firepowers to get themselves out of this situation. we expect to see Leon Clarke continue his fine form up-front, with an impressive 13 goals so far this season. Alongside midfield pairing Mark Duffy and John Fleck, we expect them to continue to impress.

Basham and Stevens will likely continue on the wing-back positions, while O’Connell, Carter-Vickers, and Wright will likely continue their relatively solid roles at the back. This being said, they have looked a bit shaky in recent games and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them struggle again as a bit of reality sets in after what has been a fairytale start to their season so far.

Despite being the better team over the majority of their recent meetings, Millwall has won 3 of their last 6 meetings with the Blades. While their recent form has been disastrous, to say the least, Millwall knows that for whatever reason they tend to do really well when Sheffield United come to play them.

We do expect, though, an away win. Millwall are out of sorts and if they try to turn it into a football game, they’ll likely lose. United are the more fluent side; Millwall’ best chance of a result is to turn it into a dogfight and ensure football is in short supply.
